God damn it! I wish they had found her alive. Eleven years old…

We have an eight and a six year old. As a par­ent, the Carlie Brucia case, and all the news and con­tra­dic­to­ry advice about preda­tors and how to foil them, just makes my blood run cold. My heart can’t decide, from one moment to the next, whether to be sad, ter­ri­fied, or angry. As I look at my own chil­dren, all three emo­tions cir­cle ’round my heart like a night­mar­ish merry-go-round.

To the Brucia fam­i­ly: You have my sin­cer­est and deep­est sym­pa­thies for your loss. Little com­fort though it may be, your loss will become the impe­tus for change that saves oth­er young lives.
