Today is Maurice Sendak’s birthday–or would have been, had he not passed away last year at the age of 84. If the name sounds fa­mil­iar, Sendak was the American au­thor and il­lus­tra­tor most fa­mous for cre­at­ing the beloved children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are (1963). His oth­er books in­clude In the Night Kitchen (1970), Outside Over There (1981), and his last, My Brother’s Book, pub­lished posthu­mous­ly this year.
