Today is Maurice Sendak’s birth­dayor would have been, had he not passed away last year at the age of 84. If the name sounds famil­iar, Sendak was the American author and illus­tra­tor most famous for cre­at­ing the beloved children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are (1963). His oth­er books include In the Night Kitchen (1970), Outside Over There (1981), and his last, My Brother’s Book, pub­lished posthu­mous­ly this year.
