Today is Maurice Sendak’s birth­dayor would have been, had he not passed away last year at the age of 84. If the name sounds famil­iar, Sendak was the American author and illus­tra­tor most famous for cre­at­ing the beloved children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are (1963). His other books include In the Night Kitchen (1970), Outside Over There (1981), and his last, My Brother’s Book, pub­lished posthu­mously this year.
