In other words, many stars comprise a star cloud like the Christmas Tree Cluster, though some shine brighter and more visibly than others. That’s the Creative Cloud star cluster. We all see the big, bright, obvious stars, stars like Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Première Pro, and others, but the most visible aren’t the only stars in the cluster. If you squint a little, and tilt your head just right, you can glimpse lots of little, younger, not as obvious stars just beyond the glow of the giants. Those smaller stars are there, shining their own light, offering their own warmth.

Maybe skeuomorphism’s day is done, but let’s not whitewash the past: faux leather stitching certainly didn’t keep Apple from essentially defining the smartphone and tablet categories during the first six iterations of iOS. You don’t have to keep dancing with the one that brung ya, partner, but it’s generally considered rude to merely shove her aside, point at her, and start laughing while you dance with somebody new. The snarky rejection of a design philosophy that is still in use on every single iPhone and iPad in the world—save those of a few Apple employees and developers—might’ve been over the top.
