Not a fan of the light gray preview background? Change it! On the Guides & Pasteboard pane of the InDesign Preferences the last dropdown menu in Color sets the background color when entering preview mode. The color options are the same as those available for layers and guides, and, with the Custom option, you can get just the right shade for you.
