With the new single column Tools panel in InDesign CS3, the separate buttons for Preview and Normal modes have become one button. Sure, you can change the Tools panel back to double column mode and restore the side-by-side mode buttons (on the Interface pane of the Preferences), but it’s a shame to double the horizontal space required by the Tools panel for a single button. Instead, why not use the mode switching shortcuts?
First, you can OPT-click/ALT-click on the modes button (the last on the single column Tools panel) to cycle through the four modes in order–Normal (working mode), Preview, Bleed, and Slug.
Second, which is even faster, is to press W. W toggles your document view between Normal and Preview, but won’t get you to the Bleed or Slug modes.
