QuarkXPress XTension from Vision’s Edge

Randoms, photo book, photo catalogue, comps, portfolio, gallery or contact pages. There are many names that you can call a page of images. Regardless of the terminology, the output is similar.

Art Gallery XT is an image cataloguing program that creates galleries of images. The galleries are grid based and you have the option to create captions that include the image name, type, size and modification date.

Using Art Gallery XT, you simply create a new document, set your gallery preferences and select a folder of graphics. Art Gallery XT automatically creates the grid of graphics, imports the images and adds captions about the images. The captions can contain the path name of the image, the dimensions of the image, the type and modification date.

To create a new Art Gallery, just create a new QuarkXPress document. Then choose Create Art Gallery…under the Utilities menu. In the dialogue, choose a grid size (you can set different sizes for both the number of boxes across and the boxes down), and choose an image scaling.

There are 4 options for scaling the image with Art Gallery XT:

  • Fit To Box— Proportionally fits the image to the box.
  • Full Fit To Box — Scales the image to fill the box.
  • 100 % — Leaves image at 100%.
  • 100% Centred — Centres the unscaled image in the box.

Additional options include the style sheet for your caption, whether or not to include sub folders and how to scale the image in the box.
