Creative Community Bulletin 09 February 2011 Through 18 February 2011

These are the articles, blogs, and resources I found interesting and worthy of sharing for 09 February 2011 through 18 February 2011:

  • How Tech Tools Transformed New York’s Sex Trade | Magazine | Wired.com – sex workers were turning to Facebook: 83 percent have a Facebook page, and I estimate that by the end of 2011, Facebook will be the leading on-line recruitment space.
  • Thor and Captain America Visit Toy Fair | Toy News | News | Marvel.com – The stars of “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger,” Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, paid a visit to the Hasbro booth at Toy Fair yesterday to check out their signature accessories and action figure likenesses!
  • Optimus Tactus keyboard – Any part of the keyboard surface can be programmed to perform any function or to display any images.

  • Transparentius road view transmitting system (concept) – Trucks on highways often appear to be an obstacle for other drivers wishing to pass or change lanes. Transparentius road view transmitting system would allow them to see what’s in the blind zone before switching lanes.
  • Free For All: Because We Love You | CreativePro.com – Fonts, email newsletter templates, InDesign scripts, and more are all yours free for the taking.
  • Explorer++ – A small and fast file manager for Windows – Explorer++ is a free multi-tab file manager for Windows.

Available on Windows XP and above, it features the same familiar interface as Windows Explorer, while introducing several enhancements and improvements for a much richer file browsing experience.

  • Big Shiny Robot – Boba Fett Meets 300 – I came across this incredibly detailed handmade helmet on The Dented Helmet’s facebook page and I just had to share it with everyone.

The artist was a fellow named Jon Wollack of Almost Dark Productions.

This is a pretty competent and beautifully executed blend of Boba Fett and the sort of helmet you’d see in an era like the one 300 was set in.

I’ve been staring at it for an hour and it’s really cost me a lot of time at work, but I wanted to make sure I shared it with all of you, because it’s really that cool.

  • Free For All: 623 Photoshop Brushes to Distress Images | CreativePro.com – Distressing artwork is among the most popular modern design techniques. The style (also known as grunge) hasn’t yet become a cliché because distressed design doesn’t necessarily look grungy: Most distressing is subtle, adding texture, depth, age, and realism.

Used with restraint, the 623 brushes below–all free, of course–can subtly improve many images; applied heavily, they can turn even the sweetest image into a dark, insidious opposite. The end effect is up to you.
