Creative Community Bulletin 23 May 2010 Through 05 June 2010

These are the articles, blogs, and resources I found interesting and worthy of sharing for 23 May 2010 through 05 June 2010:

  • Arizona Elementary School Will Whiten Faces of Its Own Students On A Mural Because Racists Yelled at It – Un-fucking-believable!

An Arizona elementary school mural featuring the faces of kids who attend the school has been the subject of constant daytime drive-by racist screaming, from adults, as well as a radio talk-show campaign (by an actual city councilman, who has an AM talk-radio show) to remove the black student’s face, and now the school principal has ordered the faces of the Latino and Black students to be changed to Caucasian skin.

  • Comic Book Publishers Strike Back at Unauthorized Comics Site – The lawyers weren’t kidding around
  • From Minority Report to Apple Patents, This Is the Future of UI | Only 5 Years Away, Says TED – What’s the future of user interfaces like? In a matter of 20 years, it will all be about gestural interfaces applied to the real world. Something like Minority Report, basically. And we’ve seen Apple exploring this concept before, with patents surfacing here and there showing how the engineers at Cupertino are indeed considering gesture-based UIs to manipulate objects in a 3D space.
  • What Alka-Seltzer mixed with water looks like in space – Ever wondered what an Alka-Seltzer tablet looks like hitting a bubble of water in space? Me neither, but this video is really cool:
  • New Phishing Scam is Sophisticated, Fools Gmail Users – Replace the favicon with the Gmail favicon, the title with “Gmail: Email from Google”, and the page with a Gmail login look-a-like. This can all be done with just a little bit of Javascript that takes place instantly.
  • Windows Key Keyboard Shortcuts – Pressing the key in combination with other keys allows invoking many common functions through the keyboard. What Windows key combinations (“shortcuts”) are available and active in a given Windows session depends on many factors, including accessibility options, the type of the session (regular or Terminal Services), the Windows version, the presence of specific software such as IntelliType, and others. The External links section below provides a list of Microsoft articles with more details.
  • The Master List of New Windows 7 Shortcuts – Windows 7 adds loads of great shortcuts for switching between apps, moving windows around your screen, moving them to another monitor altogether, and much more. Here’s a quick-reference master list of the best new Windows 7 shortcuts.
  • IRON BABY | Cute, Well-Done Iron Man 2 Parody
  • NBC – Sources said several large media companies, including Time Warner and NBC Universal, told Apple they won’t retool their extensive video libraries to accommodate the iPad, arguing that such a reformatting would be expensive and not worth it because Flash dominates the Web.
  • New Tattoo Blog Seeking Bloggers – I have put the basic structure in place, but now I need someone to expand the content, writing at least a couple of posts weekly and adding more internal pages too. If you are passionate about tattoos and want to write about the topic get in touch and we’ll discuss the gig. You can reach me on daniel@dailyblogtips.com.
