For their Native New York museum exhibit, the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of the American Indian produced three comic or graphic novel stories, and then combined all three with additional material to pubilsh the 28-page publication Telling Stories with Pictures: Collected Comics from Native New York.

I was asked to make the publication accessible, and was provided with the original InDesign document and assets to do that. The content of this book presented several unique problem-solving opportunities, particularly with regard to the complexity of the map on page 3 and the three multi-page comic stories, combined with the fact that the publication had to be 100% self-contained and additional pages and files could be utilized. Working closely with the client, educating them as we went, a unique remediation strategy was developed, executed, reviewed, and published to provide these amazing stories and information to everyone who wants to learn about the history of Native Americans in New York State.
