Adobe Appoints Former Borland Exec to Senior VP of Worldwide Field Operations

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jan. 2, 2007 — Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq: ADBE) today announced the appoint­ment of Matthew Thompson as senior vice pres­i­dent of world­wide field oper­a­tions. Thompson pre­vi­ous­ly served as senior vice pres­i­dent of world­wide oper­a­tions at Borland Software, a lead­ing provider of appli­ca­tion life­cy­cle man­age­ment soft­ware. Thompson joined Adobe on Jan. 1 and will over­see the com­pa­ny’s glob­al sales orga­ni­za­tion and all customer-facing func­tions, includ­ing sales, field mar­ket­ing, go-to-market part­ners, cus­tomer care and Adobe Consulting. He will lead the com­pa­ny’s efforts to cap­i­tal­ize on long-term growth oppor­tu­ni­ties and align its oper­a­tions with key cus­tomer segments.

“Matt is pas­sion­ate about serv­ing cus­tomers, and his expe­ri­ence with diverse busi­ness mod­els and prod­uct lines make him well suit­ed to the unique needs of our glob­al cus­tomer base,” said Shantanu Narayen, Adobe’s pres­i­dent and chief oper­at­ing offi­cer. “He has proven his abil­i­ty to man­age com­plex glob­al tech­nol­o­gy busi­ness­es, and he is the per­fect choice to spear­head the next wave of Adobe’s sales growth.”

Thompson brings over 25 years of sales expe­ri­ence to Adobe, with 20 of those years focused in the tech­nol­o­gy indus­try. During the past three years at Borland, he was respon­si­ble for the over­all direc­tion of the com­pa­ny’s glob­al sales and ser­vices orga­ni­za­tions across 23 coun­tries, includ­ing mov­ing the busi­ness from a chan­nel to a direct mod­el. Prior to Borland, Thompson was senior vice pres­i­dent of world­wide sales at Marimba, Inc. and Cadence Design Systems, Inc. Previous sales roles includ­ed Electronic Data Systems and Nalco Chemical Company. 

Thompson holds a bach­e­lor’s degree in mar­ket­ing and man­age­ment from Northern Illinois University.
