Gill Foundation and Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado Hope To Raise Total of $2M for Hurricane Victims
On Friday, 2 September, Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and four top state legislators announced a drive to raise up to $2 million from Coloradans. Led by the Colorado-based Gill Foundation and the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the aim is to raise $1 million from Colorado residents in donations of up to $250 from each, the foundations matching the donations dollar-for-dollar.
Coloradans can donate by visiting www.coloradohelps.org or by calling 1–877-213‑0015, toll free.
Christine Benero, CEO of the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross, to whom the donation is being made, was quoted as saying:
We’re so grateful to the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado and to Tim Gill for this generous donation which will truly save lives. We’re doubly proud that one of the largest single donations in the country is coming from our home state of Colorado.
Foundation founder Gill said:
Our fellow Americans are hurting. They’ve faced an unimaginable natural disaster. We’re proud to match our fellow Coloradoans’ donations to help the Red Cross get direct aid to victims throughout the Gulf Coast.
The matching challenge is scheduled to run through Sunday, 25 September 2005, unless the $1 million is matched before then. It will be supported by a newspaper and radio campaign throughout Colorado.
From 1981 through 2000, Tim Gill was better known as founder, chairman and Chief Technology Officer of Quark, Inc., purveyor of page layout giant QuarkXPress.
