Randoms, pho­to book, pho­to cat­a­logue, comps, port­fo­lio, gallery or con­tact pages. There are many names that you can call a page of images. Regardless of the ter­mi­nol­o­gy, the out­put is similar.

Art Gallery XT is an image cat­a­logu­ing pro­gram that cre­ates gal­leries of images. The gal­leries are grid based and you have the option to cre­ate cap­tions that include the image name, type, size and mod­i­fi­ca­tion date.

Using Art Gallery XT, you sim­ply cre­ate a new doc­u­ment, set your gallery pref­er­ences and select a fold­er of graph­ics. Art Gallery XT auto­mat­i­cal­ly cre­ates the grid of graph­ics, imports the images and adds cap­tions about the images. The cap­tions can con­tain the path name of the image, the dimen­sions of the image, the type and mod­i­fi­ca­tion date.

To cre­ate a new Art Gallery, just cre­ate a new QuarkXPress doc­u­ment. Then choose Create Art Gallery…under the Utilities menu. In the dia­logue, choose a grid size (you can set dif­fer­ent sizes for both the num­ber of box­es across and the box­es down), and choose an image scaling.

There are 4 options for scal­ing the image with Art Gallery XT:

• Fit To Box— Proportionally fits the image to the box.
• Full Fit To Box — Scales the image to fill the box.
• 100 % — Leaves image at 100%.
• 100% Centred — Centres the unscaled image in the box.

Additional options include the style sheet for your cap­tion, whether or not to include sub fold­ers and how to scale the image in the box.
