PRESS RELEASE
Berlin, December 20th, 2006. Precisely in time for the new year, callas software is shipping its completely new kind of tool for the long-term archiving of legacy PDF files to its retailers: the pdfaPilot. The innovative software program allows users working in archives, public authorities and companies to quickly and securely check existing PDF files and convert them to PDF/A files that conform to the standard.
The pdfaPilot, a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat Standard and Professional (version 6, 7 and 8), is specially designed for users who need to quickly check whether existing PDF documents can be archived as PDF/ A. When starting the plug-in in Acrobat, pdfaPilot automatically analyzes if the document that has been opened in Acrobat conforms to the PDF/A standard or whether it is a PDF/A file already. PDF files that do not conform to the standard can be checked for PDF/A standard compliance at the touch of a button. Readily understandable verification reports inform the user at every step of the verification process whether and how the existing PDF file can be corrected and converted to a PDF/A file. The cutting-edge tool is therefore able to solve given conversion and archiving problems on many occassions, e.g. by re-embedding missing fonts. This allows for a smooth conversion to a valid PDF/A file.
While designing the new pdfaPilot, callas software could apply its experience in the development of high-quality PDF verification, optimization and correction tools gained over many years. Berlin- based callas software has been manufacturing its leading, specialized PDF software and technology for more than 10 years and is licensing its products to companies such as Adobe, Hewlett Packard, Mitsubishi or Xerox. The company invented the preflight plug-in of Adobe Acrobat Professional and set the de facto standard for the verification of PDF files. Furthermore, callas software, as a member of the ISO standard committees (ISO, International Organization for Standardization), was heavily involved in the standardization of PDF/ X for the printing industry as well as PDF/A for long-term archiving.
A single-user license of pdfaPilot costs EUR 379 excl. VAT.
